ConcernedApe has finally set a release date for the highly anticipated Stardew Valley 1.6 update on console and mobile platforms.
Stardew Valley developer Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, has finally announced the release date for the Stardew Valley 1.6 console and mobile update in a tweet last night.
The Stardew Valley 1.6 console update that features a new farm layout, new festivals, and new late game quests will release on November 4th, 2024 on console and mobile. This means that Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile players will finally be able to start their new Meadowlands farm!
Last month, ConcernedApe apologized in a tweet to the thousands of people that have been waiting almost 8 months for the update to come to console and mobile. ConcernedApe said that he initially expected the Stardew Valley 1.6 console port to come out a month after the PC release in March, and it proved to be more difficult than expected.
ConcernedApe said in a recent tweet, "I've always released on PC first, because it's sort of a ‘beta test’ to make sure there are no critical (e.g. save-destroying) bugs, which are a much bigger deal on consoles because they can't be patched out as quickly. However, I never intended for the delay to be this long.”
ConcernedApe also promised that he wouldn't continue working on his next project, Haunted Chocolatier, until the 1.6 port to console and mobile was finished. Haunted Chocolatier was first announced in 2021 and doesn't have a release date yet. Hopefully the launch of Stardew Valley 1.6 on console and mobile will mean that ConcernedApe is going to start working on this game again!
Stardew Valley has sold over 30 million copies since the game's initial release in 2016, and the 1.6 update is the first major content patch in almost 8 years. The new update that released on PC in March 2024 scored a 10/10 on IGN. Console and mobile players have been frustrated having to wait almost 8 months for the update's port, and for a good reason.
With a new farm layout called Meadowlands, added festivals, and new late game content, there's plenty to do in the new Stardew Valley update. The new Meadowlands farm gives players 2 chickens to start with and new blue grass that helps increase your friendship with animals faster.
The Stardew Valley 1.6 console update also includes a new area to unlock after mastering every skill, a new 3-day festival in the desert location, the ability to adopt multiple pets, and up to 8-player co-op on PC. The 1.6 update also includes many quality-of-life changes like the ability to move chests while there is stuff in them, the ability to purchase animals from Marnie when she isn't in her shop, and the addition of new skill books.
Nintendo Switch, console, and mobile players will finally be able to play the new update and experience all these changes on November 4th, 2024!
