The Best Places to Farm Torrential Fragments in World of Warcraft: The War Within

Patch 11.0.7 in World of Warcraft: The War Within brings a new zone - The Siren Isle - as well as new quests, new achievements, and new mounts.

The four new mounts released with the Siren Isle are Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren, Soweezi's Vintage Waveshredder, The Breaker's Song, and the Prismatic Snapdragon. In my opinion, Thrayir is by far the coolest new mount in patch 11.0.7. Unfortunately, it's also the hardest to get.

Unlocking Thrayir requires players to complete a ritual inside the Forgotten Vault on the Siren Isle. Players will need to complete other activates around the Siren Isle to find 5 runekeys and complete the ritual during one of the island's Seafury Tempest storms.

Here's how to farm out 7 Torrential Fragments and obtain the rare mount Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren:

Collect the 5 Runekeys

Before attempting to summon Thrayir, players will need to find 5 runekeys around the Siren Isle. Here's how to collect the Whirling Runekey, the Torrential Runekey, The Thunderous Runekey, the Cyclonic Runekey, and the Turbulent Runekey:

Whirling Runekey - Drops from the rare Ksvir the Forgotten. This rare is located in the southernmost room of the Forgotten Vault, and only spawns during storms. This key is a guaranteed drop.

Torrential Runekey - Collect 7 fragments that drop from any mob on the island during a storm. This key has a low drop rate, similar to the Crackling Shards for Alunira. Right after the release of the Siren Isle, Blizzard nerfed the Torrential Fragments so players would need to find 7 instead of 5.

The Best Places to Farm Torrential Fragments

First of all, Torrential Fragments can only be found inside the Tempest on the Siren Isle. Make sure you complete the weekly event to fill up the world quest bar and unlock the Tempest. After you enter the Tempest, Torrential Fragments have a small chance to drop off of any mob in the Siren Isle.

Players have expressed frustration over the low drop rate for the Torrential Fragments. While a lot of players easily obtained Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren on release day, it seems like Torrential Fragments are a lot harder to find now. It's unclear if Blizzard quietly nerfed the drop rate after the 11.0.7 release.

The best way to farm Torrential Fragments in World of Warcraft: The War Within is by finding a group under Custom in Group Finder. If you've already used Group Finder to farm Crackling Shards or Nerubian Chitin, you'll already know how easy Group Finder is to use.

If this is your first time farming out a difficult mount, you can use Group Finder to find a custom party with people all farming Torrential Fragments on the Siren Isle. Go to Custom in Group Finder and search for Torrential, and you should see plenty of groups open. Request to join any parties with less than 5 players and make your way to them once accepted.

Most custom parties will be farming the area behind Zek-ul the Shipbreaker. The mobs in this area have a high re-spawn rate, and you can keep defeating the rare for the Cyclonic Runekey if you need it still.

Thunderous Runekey - Collect 5 Thunderous Fragments around the Siren Isle to craft the Thunderous Runekey. These fragments can drop from any treasure chest in the Siren Isle, whether you're in the storm or not.

Cyclonic Runekey - Drops from the rare Zek-ul the Shipbreaker in the Deadfin Mire during a storm. The key that drops from this rare isn't guaranteed. The Cyclonic Runekey can also be found by fishing in the Siren Isle, and some players have had more success with fishing.

Turbulent Runekey - Collect 3 Turbulent Fragments around the Siren Isle to craft the Turbulent Runekey. These keys are at set locations in the Siren Isle, but can only be seen during storms near 3 Kul Tiran ghosts:

  • Behind the abandoned inn (the ghost is digging in the garden)

  • Inside a cave in the Rotting Hole area (the ghost is cowering)

  • Inside the Spirit-Scarred Cave (the ghost is holding the fragment)

Complete the Ritual

After gathering all 5 Runekeys, wait for a Seafury Tempest storm and then go to the Forgotten Vault. The ritual to summon Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren will be in the Easternmost room of the Forgotten Vault.

Activate each rune stone with the Runekeys you have and Thrayir will come back to life!

Turn in the Quest

After Thrayir comes back to life, he will give you the quest "Thrayir, Eyes of the Storm." Simply turn the quest in to Thrayir and he will join you as a new mount.

More Siren Isle & Patch 11.0.7 Guides

Patch 11.0.7 releases on December 17th and brings more than the Siren Isle. Blizzard also added a new meta-achievement mount for Battle for Azeroth, Jani's Trashpile. This is one of the few mounts where you transform into the mount upon summoning.

Players can also farm out the meta-achievement for The War Within - You Xal Not Pass - rewarding players with the Shadow of Doubt mount.
