All the New Endings in the Silent Hill 2 Remake

The Silent Hill 2 remake brings new locations, new building interiors, and even new endings to the original game. While your first playthrough of the Silent Hill 2 remake on PS5 or PC will let you unlock one of the three additional endings, the developers have also added several new endings that early access players are still trying to figure out.

Thankfully, Silent Hill 2 isn't just a remaster, but a complete remake with new content and even new endings. In addition to the 3 endings from the original 2001 game: Leave, Maria, and In Water, there are at least 3 new endings players can unlock in New Game Plus. There may be even more than players in early access haven't discovered yet.

All of the available endings we know about so far:

  • Leave

  • Maria

  • In Water

  • Ritual

  • Dog

  • UFO

Here are how players unlock all of these endings to the Silent Hill 2 remake. Includes end-game spoilers.

"Leave" Ending:

The Leave ending is the "good" ending to Silent Hill 2, and the most common one for players to see. Each of the original three endings are influenced by decisions James made throughout the game. In the Leave ending, James comes to terms with losing Maria, and eventually leaves Silent Hill with Laura. To ensure you get this ending, spend as little time with Maria as possible, and minimize your efforts to save her.

Players can also ensure they get this ending by inspecting Mary's picture as much as possible and keeping James at full health as much as possible.

"Maria" Ending:

The Maria ending is the opposite of the Leave ending. In this ending, James leaves with Maria at the end of the game. To get this ending, players should have James spend as much time with Maria as possible. Avoid spending time with Mary or looking at her picture.

When Maria suggests something - like where to find Laura at Brookhaven Hospital - be sure to investigate her suggestion right away instead of going somewhere else first. When Maria is being attacked by monsters, try to minimize the amount of damage she takes.

"In Water" Ending:

The "In Water" ending is the saddest of the three main endings, with James choosing to end his life over his grief and trauma. It seems like the primary driver for this ending is keeping James at low health. To initiate this ending, James needs to care as little for himself as possible.

Avoid excessively healing James, only using healing items when James is an inch away from death. Players can tell when James is at low health from the red vignette around the camera and heart thumping sounds. Players can also inspect the knife throughout the game, insinuating that James is considering hurting himself.

"Ritual" Ending:

The new endings in the Silent Hill 2 remake can only be unlocked in New Game Plus, meaning players will have to beat the game and replay it to unlock new endings. Several new items become available in New Game Plus, including the four tokens players need to initiate the Ritual ending.

Players must collect the Book of Lost Memories, and White Chrism, the Obsidian Chalice, and the Crimson Ceremony book. With these items, James attempts to resurrect Maria through an occult ritual.

"Dog" Ending:

The Dog and UFO endings are both more humorous endings to the game. To get the Dog ending, players must start a New Game Plus run and search the town of Silent Hill before completing Brookhaven Hotel. Before heading to Wood Side Apartments, go to Big Jay's Pet Store to collect the Broken Key Part.

After meeting Maria in Rosewater Park, players will get access to a different part of Silent Hill's streets. When you come across a gate marked with a bone, enter the yard to find a dog house. There you'll find the other half of the broken key. Combine the items to make the Dog Key, and use it to open the Observation Room in Lakeview Hotel at the end of the game.

"UFO" Ending:

The UFO ending is the most hilarious ending to the Silent Hill 2 remake, insinuating that the horrors in Silent Hill were caused by extra-terrestrials. Players will need to find several hidden clues in a New Game Plus playthrough. When you go to Groovy Music to find the Broken Record and Vinyl Glue, check the bench to the right side of the store's entrance. There's a magazine on the bench that tells the player about some strange happenings going on in Silent Hill.

Next, find the alien device called the Blue Gem. Smash the window in the storefront across from Big Jay's on Neely Street to find the gem there. Next, head to the roof of Saul Apartments. This apartment building is part of the main story, and the linear path will take you to the roof already. Inspect the Blue Gem while you're on the roof.

The next UFO location is in Rosewater Park. You should hear some sci-fi noises as you approach the telescope on the water's edge. Inspect the Blue Gem again when you're by the telescope. The final location for the UFO ending is in Lakeview Hotel, but the final part of the quest is still unknown.

Additional Silent Hill 2 Remake Endings

It's unclear if there are even more endings in the Silent Hill 2 remake. The remake does include new collectibles throughout the game, like a set of Polaroid photos scattered throughout the game. There are also several locations that trigger flashbacks and references to the original 2001 game. It's unclear if these added game elements means there are even more hidden endings to discover.

This guide will be updated as players uncover more information about the Silent Hill 2 remake endings.
